The Amazing "Kellogg-Briand" Pact

The Kellogg-Briand Pact

The Kellogg-Briand Pact, signed in Paris 1928, was founded by two men. Frank B. Kellogg, and Aristide Briand. Frank B. Kellogg was an American lawyer, politician, and statesman of the United States, and Aristide Briand, was a French Statesman.

This video is the real life footage of the singing of the Kellogg-Briand pact, otherwise known as the "Pact of Paris"

The Kellogg-Briand Pact was one of the most amazing pacts to have ever been created, which was clearly seen when a total of 62 nations signed it. This Pact was created to stop the greatest problem the world faced then, and continues to face now. Wars, aggression to other countries and the want for more power. This was seen especially in World War One, where the number of casualties rounds up to around 36 million people. The Kellogg-Briand Pact was created to stop anything like this from happening again. Sadly, this was not the case.

After the signing of the pact, it soon grew meaningless, as nobody did anything to try and contribute to international peace. People were so concentrated on not getting anybody from their country killed that they didn't stop many crises' when they had the chance. This was clearly shown when the "Japanese invaded Manchuria in 1931, and when the Italians invaded Ethiopia in 1935" and help came to late or not at all.

What? The pen not mightier than the sword?

This cartoon shows the reality of what both Kellogg, and Briand were trying to accomplish. They thought that by signing this Treaty, peace would flourish. Not taking into consideration the reality, that the nations who signed the Treaty weren't willing to put their people in jeopardy to stop wars they weren't involved in. In this image you can even see how both Kellogg and Briand are cowering behind there pens and posters, and are minute compared to the soldiers and their weapons of 'War,' 'Hatred' and 'Jealousy.' This cartoon also shows how in the end the pact did not accomplish what it hoped and wars would not be stopped by the simple signing of name.
